England pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of cricketing action for the next four months. Scans and surgery have confirmed that the ligament damage in his left knee is all set to keep him away from England, who will be concerned about his unavailability from the crucial five-match Test assignment against Team India starting from June 20 at home. Wood was facing the knee issue for the last few years. During the Champions Trophy 2025 game between England and Afghanistan, the speedster’s condition worsened as he felt discomfort which forced him to leave the field.
Following the surgery, Wood expressed sorrow for not participating in competitive cricket for the upcoming months, however, the 35-year-old exuded confidence that he will be effective after getting rid of knee issues. He also gave hope to England cricket fans, saying he can’t wait to make a comeback in the England setup and chip in with the ball. After the successful surgery, Wood will now be undergoing the rehabilitation process.
“I’m gutted to be out for so long after representing England across all formats since the start of last year. But I’ve got every confidence that I’ll be back firing on all cylinders now that I’ve been able to sort my knee out. I want to thank the surgeon, the doctors, staff, my England teammates and coaches for their support - and, of course, our fans. I can’t wait to get back and contribute to what is going to be a huge 2025 for us as a team.” said Wood
England are likely to take on India in June without Wood
With the latest development, England are highly likely to host India from June 20th to August 4th for the five Tests without Wood. England haven’t looked great in the last few months. Following the failure in white-ball series in India and the debacle in the Champions Trophy 2025, Jos Buttler relinquished captaincy from both white-ball formats of the sport.
Following Buttler’s resignation, there are speculations that Ben Stokes and Harry Brook are top contenders for the leadership mantle. Brook, who was expected to be part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), also pulled out of the cash-rich tournament during this period of crisis.
