Igor Stimac's Team India are scheduled to commence their Merdeka Cup 2023 campaign against Malaysia on Friday at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. This will be the first appearance for the Blue Tigers in the tournament since 2001 as three teams are participating this year including India, Malaysia, and Tajikistan.
After the withdrawal of Palestine from the tournament due to the current political unrest involving the state of Israel and the Hamas terrorist outfit in Gaza, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced a change in the fixtures on October 10. The winners between India and Malaysia will face Tajikistan in the Merdeka Cup 2023 final on October 17.
