Just days ahead of the start of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, Gujarat Giants have named their head coach for the upcoming season. The Giants have named Michael Klinger, who will replace Rachael Haynes as the new head coach.

Klinger will be joined by the likes of mentor Mithali Raj and bowling coach Nooshin Al Khadeer in the coaching staff for the 2024 edition of the tournament, which is scheduled to kickstart from February 23. Speaking of Klinger, he recently coached the Sydney Thunder in WBBL. 

The Gujarat Giants took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce Klinger’s signing, captioning, “Coach saheb padharya! We are delighted to welcome former Australian cricketer @maxyklinger as our head coach for the upcoming WPL season.”

After the announcement, Klinger expressed his excitement adding, “The Gujarat Giants have a chance to do something special in Season two for the Women’s Premier league. I’m eagerly looking forward to working with cricketing legend Mithali Raj, who has played a transformative role in women’s cricket in India. I hope to take the team to ultimate glory.”

The Gujarat Giants mentor, Mithali Raj also hailed Klinger’s inclusion in the side seeing his expertise with the bat. “Working with Michael will bring out the best in the Gujarat Giants players. His expertise with the bat is also well-known and will surely benefit some of the younger members of our team. We look forward to having Klinger in the dressing room. We are sure of attaining success with him as head coach,” Mithali Raj said in Giants official statement.

The Giants will open their 2024 edition on February 25 in Bengaluru against Mumbai Indians.
