Liverpool player Mohamed Salah has bagged the player of the season award for his stunning contribution to club's 20th title victory in the Premier League. The Egyptian striker has notched up 28 goals in the season with 18 assists. He has won the distinguished award for the second time in his career. Back in 2017/18, he received the prestigious prize for his scintillating performance in the debut season for Liverpool.
The 32-year-old also has the chance to level assists in a single season with Manchester City’s stalwart Kevin De Bruyne and Arsenal’s legendary veteran Thierry Henry. He requires two assists in the upcoming final encounter of the season against Crystal Palace on May 25.
Salah surpassed his teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch to win the iconic award. Gravenberch has become the young player of the season. Earlier, Salah also became the Football Writers’ Association player of the year by gaining 90 percent votes to claim the award by the biggest margin in the 21st century. In April 2025, Salah’s contract with Liverpool extended for a couple of years.
Mohamed Salah became the highest-scoring overseas player this season
In the ongoing season, Mohamed Salah also registered the amazing feat of racking up the most number of goals in the overseas player category. He bettered Sergio Aguero's record of 184 goals. Amidst Salah’s golden period, Manchester City won’t be happy as they have failed to win any award for the first time after 2018-19.
City’s final game of the season is against Fulham at Craven Cottage Stadium in London on May 25. The Pep Guardiola-led side will look to clinch victory in the final round of the competition to confirm their qualification for the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 edition.
