Newcastle United have entered the battle to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, joining Premier League giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Everton in pursuit of the promising young forward. Delap, 22, has impressed this season despite Ipswich’s struggles, netting 12 goals in 36 league appearances. With Ipswich now relegated, the striker’s £30 million release clause has made him an appealing target for several top-tier clubs looking to bolster their attacking options this summer.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both been long-term admirers of Delap, with Chelsea previously reported to be leading the race for his signature. However, Newcastle’s recent interest appears to have shifted the dynamics. Delap himself seems to be intrigued by the idea of joining the Magpies and is reported to hold talks with the club in the coming week. Newcastle, who are currently in fourth position in the Premier League points table, could play in the Champions League next season, and this could play a significant role in luring Delap to St. James Park.

Newcastle will face Everton in final Premier League matchday in battle for Champions League spots

Newcastle is set to play Everton at the St James Park on 25th May in the final matchday of the 2024-25 Premier League season. The race for the Champions League spot in the PL table has come down to the last matchday as the third placed team and seventh place team is separated by just 3 points. A single slip-off in the final match could cost the teams a chance of playing in the Champions League next season.

Newcastle is currently in fourth place with 66 points. They are separated from fifth place Chelsea with the same number of points with an excess goal-difference of just 2. Even a marginal defeat against Everton could prove to be costly for Newcastle Champions League ambitions for next season. Playing in front of the home-crowd, the team will be determined to come away with a victory and secure their European spot.
