Mohammed Shami is an Indian International cricketer, who is a right arm fast-bowler. The 34-year-old also plays for Bengal in domestic competitions. Shami is one of the most consistent wicket-takers in world cricket. He has a reputation of having an edge in the death overs of all the formats of the game. Shami had been sidelined with injury for over a year after which he made a comeback in the India verus England limited-overs series earlier this year. Shami was later called up into India’s Champions Trophy squad in which he managed to clinch nine wickets in the title-winning campaign. The fiery Indian pacer was also the highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023.

According to the latest report from ESPNcricinfo, Mohammed Shami has been selected in West Bengal’s list of probable 50 players for the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. Shami will also reportedly feature in the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, which is set to return to its earlier inter-zonal format. The tournament will be commencing from August 28. Shami will be focused on displaying his A-game in the tournament so that he could make a comeback into Indian cricket teamafter being left out from Test tour to England as the selectors thought he was not fit enough to participate.

Mohammed Shami keen on making an impact to make a return to Indian cricket team: Reports

Mohammed Shami has played 64 Test matches, 108 ODIs, and 25 T20Is for the Indian cricket team. The 34-year-old last played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 season, in which the team finished sixth on the points table in the 10-team tournament.

During the IPL 2025, Shami was criticised for his inability to bowl at consistent pace and lengths, only managing to pick up six wickets throughout the season at a very high economy rate. Shami, who is currently out of action, will look to gain his form back in the upcoming domestic season.
