Rohit Sharma-led Team India will take on England in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday, February 9. While the hosts will be coming into the match, hoping to seal the series after they went 1-0 up with a four-wicket win in the opening match in Nagpur. On the other hand, the Jos Buttler-led England will eye to level the series, taking it all down to the decider, which is scheduled for Wednesday, January 12.
As the two teams are all set to take on in the second ODI, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak shared a positive update around several key players, also seeing the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 set to be played ahead. While he confirmed Virat Kohli’s participation in the second ODI after he missed the opening match in Nagpur due to swollen knee, he also shared a positive update around Mohammed Shami.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on the eve of the second ODI, Kotak confirmed that pacer Mohammed Shami is “completely fit”. He also added that Arshdeep Singh’s participation will be decided by the captain and the head coach ahead of the match. "Shami is absolutely fit, he is completely fit, and if Arshdeep gets a chance, the same answer again, that head coach and captain can decide," Kotak told the reporters.
It is to be noted that Mohammed Shami made his first appearance for the Men in Blue in the third T20I against England since the ODI World Cup 2023 final. In the five-match T20I series, he made only two appearances, where he bagged three wickets at an average of 16.67. After that, he featured in the first ODI in Nagpur where he scalped one wicket in his eight-over spell.
