Former West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran has become the skipper of Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) ahead of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. He will supersede Kieron Pollard, who has captained the team since 2019. Pooran is known for his aggressive batting style in the shortest form of the sport. The left-handed batter was active in T20 Internationals (T20I) from 2016 to 2025 and during those nine years, he accumulated 2275 runs with 13 fifties in 97 innings of 106 matches. Pooran also possesses a lot of experience in league cricket. He has played in different T20 competitions around the globe. In the cash-rich IPL, he is a vital cog in Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Before taking up the new responsibility, Pooran expressed gratitude to his side and also expressed his desire to deliver his best to the team as skipper. "It means a lot, first and foremost, to represent Trinbago Knight Riders. It is a privilege that I'm getting the opportunity to lead this franchise. I want to give it my best shot, and hopefully make as many correct decisions as I can. It's a responsibility that has been passed on from Bravo to Pollard, and now to me. For me, the most satisfying thing is that Pollard is still playing; Sunil (Narine) and Andre (Russell) are here too. That's a lot of experience I can bank on. To lead them on the field - it means a lot to me," said Pooran. Trinbago will kick off their campaign against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 17.
Nicholas Pooran's recent form and his performance in CPL
Nicholas Pooran's last T20 performance came for MI New York in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025. Appearing in 13 games, he notched up 360 runs with a hundred and two fifties. With these numbers, he ended up as the fifth-leading run-scorer in the tournament.
Discussing the 29-year-old's performance in CPL, he is currently the seventh-leading run-getter with 2247 runs with 13 fifties and three centuries in 103 innings of 114 contests.
