Team India are trailing by 1-2 against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 but their performance has been appreciable so far. India, who are going through transition, have displayed valiance under Shubman Gill’s leadership in the competition, thus far. Ahead of the competition, India’s legendary batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from red-ball cricket and questions arose how Team India would fare without both iconic players. Both Kohli and Rohit were struggling to be among the runs. Their underwhelming performances became one of the major reasons for failures against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25.
As per former India batter and now a renowned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, India aren’t missing the batting contributions of both legends. He highlighted Rohit’s average of 10.00 in the latter’s last two Test series and Virat Kohli’s previous five-year average of 30.00. "Rohit Sharma was averaging 10 in the last two series that he played, and Virat Kohli was averaging 30 in the last five years. So they were perhaps not easy to replace, but it wasn't like it was a huge loss. It was a loss of two very senior players, but not a loss of contribution, because they weren't contributing as much," said Manjrekar on JioStar.
Team India’s Test records at The Oval
As Team India are heading towards the fifth Test at The Oval, their fans will be eager to know their red-ball records at the venue. In 15 games, India have emerged victorious on two occasions while they also tasted defeat in six instances. Their seven matches have concluded in a stalemate as well.
Their last outing at The Oval was in 2023 against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final. India lost that game by a heavy margin of 209 runs. Discussing their previous encounter against England on the ground, it happened in 2021. India got the better of the hosts by 157 runs, riding on Rohit Sharma’s 127-run knock.
