Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic confirmed that Andy Murray will continue to be a part of his coaching staff for an indefinite period after they worked together on trial basis at the Australian Open last month. The decision was confirmed by the 37-year-old before losing the opening round of the Qatar Open to Italian Matteo Berrettini in straight sets, with a scoreline of 7-6(7-4), 6-2 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

Notably, during the first tournament as a partnership with Andy Murray this past January at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic reached the semi-final stage before retiring from the tournament due to a hamstring injury. In his return match, the 24-time Grand Slam champion lost to Matteo Berrettini without looking anywhere close to his absolute best on court, which could be a worrying sign going into the tournaments in near future.

It's indefinite in terms of how long we are going to work together: Djokovic on Murray coaching partnership

Last month, Novak Djokovic spoke about needing to cool off before talking about the future course of action with Andy Murray in the aftermath of the Australian Open loss. Following the last few weeks of discussions and introspection, the former world number one confirmed to the ATP Tour’s channel about the Briton staying a part of his coaching staff, and said, “I expressed my desire to continue the collaboration with him so I am really glad he did accept.”

“It's indefinite in terms of how long we are going to work together but we agreed we are going to work most likely in the [United] States and then some clay-court tournaments and see how it goes after that,” he added. Moreover, Murray had joined Djokovic’s coaching staff just a few months after retiring from the sport in August last year, which had come as a big surprise for many in the tennis community.
