On January 17, 2024, India and Afghanistan became a part of the first-ever double Super Over game in international cricket. With over 450 runs scored in more than 40 overs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, India defeated Afghanistan in the second Super Over in an high-octane thriller. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma shone with his fifth T20I hundred while Rinku Singh  scored a fiery half-century as Men in Blue posted a total of 212 runs for the loss of four wickets. In reply, Afghanistan also levelled the scores with the help of respective fifties by Rahmanullah Gurbaz, skipper Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib.

Batting first, India got a poor start as they lost four wickets for just 22 runs in 4.3 overs. After that, Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh took charge of the innings and put up an unbeaten partnership of 190 runs as India went on to post a big total even after losing early wickets. Rohit Sharma put up the highest score of his T20I career as he remained unbeaten on 121*(69) runs hitting 11 fours and eight sixes. On the other hand, Rinku scored 69*(39) runs with two fours and six sixes. For Afghanistan, Fareed Ahmad took three scalps while Azmatullah Omarzai put one in his bag.

India defeated Afghanistan in first-ever double Super Over 

In reply to India’s total of 212/4, Afghanistan also got a good start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz (50 off 32) and Ibrahim Zadran (50 off 41) adding 93 runs for the first wicket. After that, Gulbadin Nain remained unbeaten on 55*(23) while Mohammad Nabi scored a quickfire 34(16) runs as Afghanistan also ended up posting 212 runs at the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. After that, the match went down to the Super Over, where Afghanistan gave India a target of 17 runs. However, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal could also score 16 runs in six balls as the Super Over also ended in a tie.

Now, the double super over took place for the first time in international cricket. In the second super over, India lost their two wickets for 11 runs in five balls. After that, Ravi Bishnoi took charge with the ball and took two wickets for a run in three balls as India finally ended up winning a long T20I match that lasted for more than four hours.
