Top seed Novak Djokovic could face former gold medallist Rafael Nadal in the second round of the Paris Olympics 2024 as the draws were announced on July 25. The tennis event at the Paris Summer Games will start on July 27. Home of the French Open, Stade Roland Garros in Paris will host the tennis event at the Summer Games.
In the men’s singles, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will take on Australian doubles star Matthew Ebden. The reigning Wimbledon and French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz has been pitted against Hady Habib while 2008 Olympic singles champion Rafael Nadal locks horns against Márton Fucsovics. Tokyo 2020 winner Alexander Zverev plays Alex de Minaur.
Paris 2024: Djokovic could take on Nadal in 2nd round
With this draw, tennis legends Djokovic and Nadal could face each other in the second round if they win their opening matches. Regarding Indian tennis stars, Sumit Nagal will battle against Corentin Moutet in the 1st round. On the other hand, Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji will take on home favourites Reboul/Roger-Vasselin.
On the women's side, World number one and top-seeded Iga Swiatek takes on Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in the opening round while world number two Coco Gauff takes on Ajla Tomljanovic. Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka, who lit the cauldron at the Tokyo 2020 Opening Ceremony, will face Angelique Kerber in the women's singles.
