German driver Mick Schumacher has revealed recent discussions with the Mercedes F1 team about a possible return to Formula One as a replacement for Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champions created shockwaves after confirming a historic move to Scuderia Ferrari from the 2025 season. Since this transfer, several top F1 stars have emerged as possible contenders to replace the British driver.
Amidst these speculations, Mick Schumacher has also emerged as a contender after he shared his conversation with Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, about a possible return. Schumacher had a sub-par F1 stint with Haas before joining Mercedes as a reserve driver. When asked about co his conversation with Toto Wolff and Co. about 2025, Schumacher said it has only been “brief.”

“It is of course a position that brings with it a lot of pressure. But in terms of feeling, I feel I’m up to it,” he told sport.de. “But it’s not my decision. We will certainly be able to talk a little more in the next few days.”
“My chance [to return] is there, I don’t know how big it is yet. I think it will also depend a bit on performance. Hopefully, I can recommend myself. I think a few people out there know how good I am,” continued.
Formula One has priority: Schumacher ahead of WEC debut
Ahead of the 2024 F1 season, Mick Schumacher will join the Renault-owned Alpine in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) this month. But when asked about his ambitions in Formula One, the German revealed returning to the pinnacle of motorsports remains his main target. “If there is a necessity for me to be in a Formula One car and there’s a (WEC) race weekend at the same time then obviously Formula One has priority,” Schumacher told media.
“Mercedes has always been very supportive of me going into this position … to stay sharp and, if the opportunity arises, that I am 100 per cent in the right mood and position mentally as well as physically to take on the challenge thrown at me.”
