After winning the T20I series by 3-2, the Indian Women’s team also had a convincing start to the three-match ODI series as they ended up winning the first ODI by four wickets at The Ageas Bowl in Hampshire. For India Women, Deepti Sharma turned out to be a star with her match-winning knock of 62*(64) runs as the visitors chased the target of 259 runs in 48.2 overs.

During her knock, Deepti Sharma also smashed a stylish one-handed six in the 38th over of the innings while India Women were chasing a target. In response to Lauren Bell’s delivery, Deepti swung the bat in full power and went on to hit a shot with one hand. The ball ended up landing outside the boundary and Deepti smashed a massive six.

All-round performance helped India Women to take 1-0 in ODI series

Talking about the match, batting first, England Women posted a total of 258 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 50 overs. For the hosts, Sophia Dunkley top scored with 83 runs off 92 ball hitting nine boundaries, while Alice Davidson-Richards got out after scoring 53(73) runs with two boundaries. Skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt also contributed with 41 runs off 52 balls. For India Women, Sneh Rana and Kranti Goud took two wickets each while Amanjot Kaur and Nallapureddy Charani scalped a wicket each.

Chasing the winning target, India Women got a good start as Pratika Rawal (36 off 51) and Smriti Mandhana (28 off 24) added 48 runs for the first wicket in eight overs. However, the visitors went on to lose regular wickets after that and were reduced to 124/4 after 27.1 overs. After that, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma put up a partnership of 90 runs for the fifth wicket. Rodrigues got out after scoring 48(54) runs while Deepti scored an unbeaten 62 runs off 64 balls hitting three fours and a six. Amanjot Kaur also scored an unbeaten 20*(14) runs as India Women chased the target with four wickets in hand and 10 balls remaining.
