Team India opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has batted magnificently in the second innings of fifth Test at The Oval in London. He stood tall against England bowlers and went on to rack up his sixth Test century before celebrating it in a memorable fashion. After making a fine comeback in the first innings with the ball despite conceding 23-run lead, India were expecting their openers Jaiswal and KL Rahul to produce quality innings. However, Rahul departed after scoring seven off 28, but Jaiswal showed courage in tough batting conditions. After Sai Sudharsan’s dismissal, when India were in some trouble at a score of 70/2, Jaiswal and Akash Deep stood at the crease and created pressure on the hosts. Both stitched a 107-run stand together.

Before the end of the first session on day three, Akash Deep went back to the pavilion after chipping in with 66 off 94. In the second session, Jaiswal completed his hundred in 127 balls and brought cheers to the fans of Team India. Against England, it was his fourth red-ball ton. He will end the series with two hundreds. Earlier, he struck a ton in the first innings of the opening Test played in Leeds.

Karun Nair misses out in second innings of The Oval Test after scoring fifty earlier

At the start of the second session, captain Shubman Gill fell against Gus Atkinson after contributing only 11 runs, signalling Karun Nair's arrival at the crease. Team India were expecting Nair to be at his best again in the second innings, but it didn't quite happen for him, getting dismissed for 17 off 32. In the first innings, it was his fifty that helped the visitors to put up a fine score of 224 on the board before England scored 247 runs.

With India currently on top in second session on day three in the fifth Test with Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on a hundred, Ravindra Jadeja’s responsibility will be to step up and dominate England’s bowling attack again alongside him. Dhruv Jurel will also have to make a solid contribution from his bat to help India deliver a massive target to the home side. In the first innings, Jurel could score only 19 off 40.
