Tottenham faced Everton in a heated 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Monday night and it was full of drama as Everton's Abdoulaye Doucoure was sent off after a heated altercation with Spurs captain Harry Kane. Earlier in that game, the play was stopped in the 26th minute so all the players who were participating in the holy month of Ramadan could break their fast.
The Muslim players are allowed to break their fast between the game in the Premier League games and this decision is being hailed as one which promotes inclusivity and respects the beliefs of people. The Muslims are supposed to fast from dawn to dusk and this affects the player's health, so allowing them to break the fast in the middle of the game gives them huge relief.
This is becoming a norm around Europe as even when the officials are not stopping the game they are getting support from fellow teammates like when in the Inter Milan vs Fiorentina game Lucas Ranieri faked an injury to let his Muslim teammate Sofyan Amrabat break his fast .
Talking about the game, t he 30-year-old Everton midfielder put his hand on Harry Kane’s face, which led to his direct sent off in the 58th minute of the game. Just ten minutes later, Kane dispatched a penalty to give Spurs the lead, however, fans criticized the Spurs captain for exaggerating the incident by falling down on the ground way too easily.
In the 88th minute, Spurs forward Lucas Moura was also handed a straight red card for his aggressive tackle after replacing Heung-min Son just six minutes ago. After two minutes, Everton defender Michael Keane equalized with a stunning goal from outside the box.
The leagues all around the world are accommodating the people fasting in the holy month of Ramzan and supporting their beliefs. In this way, the Muslim players feel more at ease this month, and also help them perform at the same level if not better than they were before this month. An excellent example is Karim Benzema or the 'Ramadan Benz' as he is called, hit a seven-minute hattrick while fasting against Real Valladolid and he himself has said that he somehow feels better while fasting which improves his game. This has brought on a positive impact on all Muslim players around the world.
