Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw had recently voiced his frustration at getting left out of Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024-25, wondering why he wasn’t good enough to be picked despite exceptional stats in List A cricket. But now, in a major development, the senior MCA official reportedly claimed that Prithvi Shaw’s lack of fitness and disciplinary issues, including night outs till 6 AM forcing him to miss training sessions, were the reasons for his omission from the Mumbai’s VHT squad.

During his interview with the PTI, the senior MCA official was quite categoric in his criticism of Prithvi Shaw despite him scoring 3,399 runs in 65 matches at an average of 55.72 and a strike-rate of 125.74 with 10 hundreds and 14 fifties. He called Prithvi Shaw his “own enemy,” talking about how Mumbai had to hide him in the field during the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25, which Mumbai had won.

Mumbai's senior players complained about Prithvi Shaw's attitude: MCA Official

The senior MCA official also talked about the issues Prithvi Shaw faced while batting due to his lack of fitness, and said, “In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him and he would barely be able to get to it. No one is Shaw's enemy. He is his own enemy. Even while batting, he struggled to reach the ball. His fitness, discipline, and attitude are lacking, and we cannot have different rules for different players.”

Furthermore, he went on to claim that during SMAT 2024, Prithvi Shaw missed the training session after returning to Mumbai’s team hotel at 6 AM after having night outs. It led to the senior players of Mumbai, which includes a few big names from the Indian cricket team, complain about the attitude of Prithvi Shaw towards the state team and his own interest in cricket.
