PV Sindhu, the former world champion, won her first title on the BWF tour in more than two years after defeating China Wu Luo Yu in straight games 21-14, 21-16 in the final of the Syed Modi International 2024 on Sunday, December 1. At the Babu Banarasi Das Badminton Academy in Lucknow, the 29-year-old claimed her third Syed Modi International title after winning it in 2017 and 2022 before missing last year’s edition because of injury.

In the opening stages of the Syed Modi International 2024 final, PV Sindhu started on a strong note, taking an early lead before going into the mid-game break at 11-9 score. The multi-time Olympic medallist continued the momentum going against Wu Luo Yu, extending her lead to four points before winning the first game in a comfortable manner with a 21-14 scoreline.

In the second game, the Chinese brought the fight to PV Sindhu, levelling the score at 5-5 before going into the mid-game break at 11-9. Following this, the Indian shuttler took control of the match with five straight points, and then Wu Luo Yu had no comeback left in her as the home favourite won the Syed Modi International 2024 title after claiming the second game 21-16.

Meanwhile, in the women’s double category, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand of India won their first BWF tour title with an impressive 21-18, 21-11 win over Bao Li Jing and Li Qian of China in the final. In the men’s singles category, Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated Jason Teh from Singapore in a dominating fashion 21-6, 21-7, to claim the Syed Modi International 2024 title.
