After announcing his retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the third BGT Test in Brisbane a couple of days ago, there have been well wishes pouring in for Indian legend Ravichandran Ashwin on social media and elsewhere. In one of the latest posts on his official X account, the 38-year-old shared his call log wherein he was wished personally by former cricketers, namely Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev.
Notably, while the decision of Ravichandran Ashwin to retire from international level came as a surprise to many in the cricket community, it was reportedly far from it for the Indian cricket team. Shortly after arriving from Brisbane to Chennai yesterday, the off spin bowler stated that there is still a lot of cricket left in him, and he is looking forward to being a part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) once again in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ravichandran Ashwin thanked Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev for calling him personally
Earlier today, in the picture shared by Ravichandran Ashwin of his call log from the day of announcing his international retirement, he got well wishes from some of the closest people in his life apart from two legendary Indian cricketers. He captioned the post on X, “If some one told me 25 years ago that I would have a smart phone with me and the call log on the last day of my career as an Indian cricketer would look like this, I would have had a heart attack then only. Thanks @sachin_rt and @therealkapildev paaji #blessed”.
Such calls received by Ravichandran Ashwin are a result of his sheer commitment and determination to succeed in cricket at all levels throughout his career, which led to him becoming one of the greatest all-round cricketers in the history of Indian cricket. During his playing days, he became the first player from India to score more than 3,000 runs and 500 wickets at the Test level, helping them dominate at home in the longest format of the game for more than 12 years.
Ravichandran Ashwin is also a ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy winner in the Indian colours in 2011 and 2013 respectively, delivering the tough overs in do-or-die knockout matches in both tournaments.
