The transfer tryst of Benjamin Sesko and Manchester United has taken a new turn. As per the reports, the Red Devils are priortising a centre-forward even after signing wingers like Matheus Cunha (£62.5 million from Wolves) and Bryan Mbeumo (£71 million from Brentford) this summer, alongside Diego Leon. It is said that the departure of Marcus Rashford on loan to Barcelona and the poor returns of Rasmus Hojlund last season at the club has led to Manchester United’s interest in Benjamin Sesko.
In a new development in regards to Benjamin Sesko, RB Leipzig is reportedly considering a move for Rasmus Hojlund as part of a possible swap deal involving their forward Benjamin Sesko. The pursuit of the 22-year-old Sesko from Manchester United has now cast uncertainty over Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford, highlighting the ruthless dynamics of modern football’s transfer market. Manchester United’s reported interest in Benjamin Sesko, who has scored 27 goals in 64 Bundesliga appearances for RB Leipzig, stems from Ruben Amorim’s desire to bolster the club’s attack after a goal-shy 2024-25 season.
Rasmus Hojlund struggled to fix his place as Manchester United’s primary striker
Rasmus Hojlund, who joined Manchester United from Atalanta for £72 million in 2023, has struggled to cement his place as the club’s primary striker. Despite showing promise with 10 Premier League goals in his debut 2023-24 season, the 22-year-old managed only four league goals in the 2024-25 campaign, though he added six in the Europa League. His recent performance came in a 4-1 pre-season win over Bournemouth in Chicago, where he scored a decent goal.
Reports claim that Hojlund is the “dream target” for RB Leipzig, with his current book claimed to be at just under £45 million. It is said Leipzig see Hojlund as a long-term investment, valuing his pace and ability to exploit high defensive lines. Reportedly, other clubs including Inter Milan and AS Roma, are also monitoring Hojlund, with Roma’s Gian Piero Gasperini eyeing a reunion after coaching him at Atalanta. The transfer saga of Benjamin Sesko along with Leipzig’s interest has now placed Hojlund at a career crossroads with coming days might result to be very significant for him.
