On Tuesday, May 27, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) handed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) a six-wicket defeat in the final league stage fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. With this win, they finished second in the points table, after Punjab Kings and will now take on the Shreyas Iyer-led side in the Qualifier 1 on Thursday, May 29.
Although, LSG too had their moments on the field, but eventually suffered a defeat to end their 2025 season at seventh place. The Rishabh Pant-led side, along with the defeat, have also been handed a massive setback as their skipper along with his teammates have been penalised after the side maintained slow over-rate.
Rishabh Pant fined INR 30 Lakh after LSG’s third slow over-rate offence
Pant has been fined INR 30 Lakh after his team was found guilty of the offence for the third time in this season. "As it was his team's third offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 30 Lakh," statement in the IPL media release read.
“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the statement further added.
RCB set eyes on maiden IPL title after securing place in playoffs
With the win in match 70 of IPL 2025, RCB consolidated their position at the second spot and will now take on Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday, May 29 in Mullanpur. However, the winner of the match will seal a berth in the final, the loser will lock horns with the winner of Eliminator, which is set to be played between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans on May 30 in Mullanpur.
The winner of the Qualifier 2, will then seal the second place in the final and will lock horns with the winner of Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahemdabad.
