India’s tennis great Rohan Bopanna and his partner in men’s doubles Australia’s Matthew Ebden finished as the runners-up after a defeat against the pair of Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev. The Indian-Australian duo lost the match 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 to settle as the runners up in the ATP 1000 Madrid Open final.

While the Indian-Aussie pair went neck-and-neck at one point of time, they eventually lost the first set going down 6-3. They pushed to their full potential in the second set and then overcame their first set defeat to level the match after taking the second set 3-6. The pair however could not replicate their second set win as they fell against the pair to end the game losing 10-3 in the final set.

The Russian unseeded pair of Andrey Rublev and Kare Khachanov clinched their first doubles title together after this win.

It is to be noted that this was the fourth ATP Final and second Masters Final for this pair in the year 2023. Bopanna had scripted history in March 2023 as he became the oldest ATP Masters 1000 champion after he won the BNP Paribas Open along with Ebden as his doubles partner.
