On Friday, May 16, Manchester United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea, which was their record 18th loss in a Premier League season, to find themselves just two places above relegation. After losing to a Marc Cucurella goal in the second half, Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, was backing his striker Rasmus Hojlund, who had a torrid time in the match, stating that he is happy with the Danish international.
Notably, during the highly intense contest at the Stamford Bridge in London, Rasmus Hojlund was allowed to dictate terms by Chelsea defence, especially their centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo. The 22-year-old also got a mouthful from his captain Bruno Fernandes for not finding a way to hold up the ball long enough or find himself in dangerous areas in the final third of the opposition.
He is improving. I’m really happy with him: Ruben Amorim on Rasmus Hojlund
In the 2024-25 season, Rasmus Hojlund has got just 10 goals in 49 appearances, and at one point, he went through a goal-drought, which lasted for 21 matches before scoring against Leicester City. With just two goals in the last 11 matches, during the crunch stage of the season, the Dane hasn’t been much of a help to his team, especially with his fellow striker Joshua Zirkzee getting injured recently.
While speaking to the media in the post-match, Ruben Amorim was quoted as saying about Rasmus Hojlund’s recent performances for Manchester United, as per Yahoo Sports, “I’m happy, of course all the team has to improve, but the way he runs, he fights for every ball, loses a lot of duels, wins some duels, he needs to improve the connection.”
“But he is improving. I’m really happy with him, he just needs to continue working hard and better things will come,” Ruben Amorim added.
