In a big update, it has been reported that Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. The young cricketer has reportedly reached the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru with a wrist injury and is likely to miss the entire series.

The 25-year-old also missed the T20I series against Sri Lanka last year and did not find a place with Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill already picked as opener for the next T20I series earlier this month. Gaikwad was set to reach Ranchi on Wednesday (January 25) but instead reported at the NCA on Tuesday following the injury.

“Yes, Ruturaj is in NCA with a wrist injury. We don’t know yet whether it is serious. But considering the short turnout  time for the matches, it is unlikely that he will be able to make it in time. He is undergoing scans and we will know more once reports come in. We already have 4-5 openers available. But it is up to the selectors to name a replacement,” a senior BCCI official was quoted by InsideSport.

India’s T20I squad against New Zealand:  Hardik Pandya (Captain), Suryakumar Yadav (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill,  Deepak Hooda , Rahul Tripathi, Jitesh Sharma (wk),  Washington Sundar , Kuldeep Yadav,  Yuzvendra Chahal , Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi,  Prithvi Shaw , Mukesh Kumar.
