Former Australian cricketer and current Chennai Super Kings batting coach, Michael Hussey was all praise for the CSK opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad. While appreciating the dynamic CSK batter for his skills and ability to make the bowlers’ job difficult, Hussey said that Gaikwad is way better than what he was at the age. Michael Hussey, who has currently taken up the CSK’s batting coach’s role, got the chance to play for his country in his late 20s and went on to become one of the stalwarts in the cricketing world.

Michael believes that it is just a matter of time before this star batter blossoms into a successful player for India. Speaking in an interview, Hussey said, “He is way better than me (at that age). There is no doubt in my mind that Ruturaj can play at the international level. He’s definitely good enough to be there and I would love to see him get a good run.”
Even after being a successful player for CSK, 26-year-old Gaikwad hasn’t been able to come up with a good score for India in all the nine T20Is and one ODIs he has been a part of so far. But Hussey believes that some players need more time to shine than others.
“There is no doubt that Ruturaj can play at the international level. He is such a self-aware player and has a great understanding of his game and what he needs to improve. The next time he gets an opportunity to play for India, I think he will have learned his lessons from the previous times and will put those lessons into play to help him succeed,” Hussey, also known as ‘Mr. Cricket’, said.
Gaikwad, who currently sits on the top of the run charts of the IPL Orange Cap 2023 played brilliant 92 and 57 run knocks against Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. Additionally, Chennai will now lock horns with the five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians on April 8, in Mumbai.
