The Afghanistan team suffered a heartbreaking loss against Sri Lanka as they also failed to qualify for the Super 4s stage in the Aisa Cup 2023. After winning the toss, the Lankans posted a competitive 293-run target thanks to a 93-run knock by Kusal Mendis.
Afghanistan needed to chase in 37.1 overs to ensure qualification to the next stage. After a slowish start, Afghans changed gears with Mohammed Nabi and Hashmatullah Shahidi, putting up a crucial partnership. Nabi eventually got on 65 in 33 balls but other batters like Karim Janat, Najibullah Zadran and Rashid Khan played magical cameos.
But with just three runs required, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Fazalhaq Farooqi had a massive brain fade as they messed up calculations which cost them the win. Reacting to this thriller, fans on social media slammed Afghanistan team management and expressed adoration toward Rashid and Nabi for their heroics.
