In a big update, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are all set to miss their skipper in Shreyas Iyer for the 16th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). As reported, Iyer is likely to remain on the sidelines for the next 4-5 months. The Indian batter was ruled out of the ongoing India vs Australia ODI series after a recurring lower back injury.

However, he’ll will reportedly miss the entire season of IPL 2023, the 28-year-old is also set to miss the World Test Championship Final which is scheduled to be held from 7-11 June at the Oval.

“Iyer has been advised to go for surgery. He is keen to get operated by a specialist in London, but if there is a decent option in India, then the surgery could take place here also,” a source close of Iyer was quoted by Times of India.

Iyer, who was part of the India squad for the Border Gavaskar Trophy had to forcefully pull out of the fourth Test due to the recurrence of injury. He had also missed the white-ball series against New Zealand earlier this year because of the same injury. However, it will be seen whether he gets fit in time for the 2023 ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place in India later this year.
