Australia batting superstar Steve Smith is excited to take on England in the upcoming Ashes series to be held down under from November 21 onwards. Smith holds a lot of breathtaking batting record against England in Tests. Appearing in 37 matches, he has accumulated 3417 runs with 12 hundreds and 13 fifties in 66 innings. With these numbers, he is only behind Sir Don Bradman and Allan Border on the chart of Aussie batters with most runs against the English side. Discussing his record against England in Australia, he has smashed 1417 runs with five hundreds and five fifties in 30 innings of 18 games.
Currently, Smith is in England to serve Welsh Fire in The Hundred 2025. Recently, he gave an interview to Sky Sports and revealed that he followed England’s fierce playing style against India in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. He also feels that the upcoming series is going to be challenging for England batters who are highly likely to be tested against the Aussie side’s experienced bowling attack.
“I watched a lot of the series against India and it was one of the best Test series I've seen in a long time. The cricket that was played by both teams was outstanding. England have a good side at the moment. They are obviously playing a really aggressive brand of cricket. I think coming down to Australia, particularly for their batters, it's going to be a big challenge. The wickets in the last three-four years have been really tricky. We've obviously got a very experienced bowling lineup with guys that have played over a long period of time and been extremely successful. I'm looking forward to it. I think it's going to be a great series,” said Smith about the prospect of Ashes series at home against England this winter.
Steve Smith’s Test performance in 2025 for Australia
In 2025, Steve Smith has played six Tests in which he scored 515 runs in 10 innings just after ending the last year on a high against India at home. His last red-ball outing came against the West Indies in Kingston. In the series against the Caribbean side, his bat remained silent as he could hoard only 127 runs in four innings of two contests on tough batting pitches.
Discussing his recent run with Welsh in The Hundred 2025, the 36-year-old has amassed 58 runs in three contests at a strike rate of 128.88. Welsh’ next game is against Oval Invincibles at The Oval on August 16, and in that, Smith will be expected to exhibit his courageous side with his bat.
