India’s miserable tour of Australia concluded on January 5, 2025 but a shocking piece of information has broken out from the campaign which was for one-and-a-half months. According to a report from a famous news publication house, an Indian player carried 27 bags, whose payment of INR 27 Lakh was done by the BCCI. The reports also claimed the luggage not just belonged to the player but his family members as well. The weight of the bags was more than 250 kgs.
The player carried 17 bats along with the crucial belongings of his family members and personal staff. According to the BCCI guidelines, the board isn’t liable to pay for belongings of family members and personal staff but the player made BCCI pay for the expenditure as part of his baggage.
The report from Hindustan Times also asserted the relatives of the player were under the public eye during the entire tour. The entire scene forced the board to pay for the player and his family member’s items expenses from one destination to another. The exact amount of the spending couldn’t be known but the figure could be in lakhs.
The incident prompted BCCI to put restrictions on weight of luggage
Following the dismal Australia tour, BCCI have released a 10-point diktat, which also put a cap on the weight of luggage to be carried while travelling. According to the new rule, a player can carry only a maximum of 150 kgs of baggage with him. If the weight of luggage exceeds, the player will be bound to spend from his wallet.
The new rule will be applied to the team with the beginning of the Champions Trophy 2025, which will kick off on February 19. The new protocol also states that Indian players, who will play all their group matches in Dubai, won’t be allowed to stay with family members during the entire tournament.
