Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal took down Italy's Luca Nardi 6-1, 6-4 in the Chennai Open final to enter the  Top 100 in next week’s ATP Rankings. Nagal will be part of the ATP Top 100 for the first time in his career as he continues his dream run in 2024. The 26-year-old  also became the first Indian man since Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019 to enter the top-100 barrier.

Coming back to the Chennai Open,  Sumit Nagal dominated this ATP Challenger trophy from the word go as he didn't drop a single set in his title run. In the final,    Nagal took on the top-seeded  Luca Nardi at the  SDAT Tennis Stadium and was on top of his game by clinching the first set 6-1 in comprehensive fashion. 

In the second set,  Nardi levelled with Nagal 1-1, before the Indian cruised through to clinch the match and the tournament  6-1 6-4. As won the final, he jumped up in joy before sharing an emotional moment with his coach and former India international  Somdev Devvarman.

The victory also made Nagal just the 10th Indian ever to crack the ATP Top 100. This also was the  5th ATP Challenger title of his career and 2nd at home. On February 12th's  ATP Rankings Sumit Nagal will feature at #98,  continuing his stellar 2024 which included a second-round exit at the Australian Open 2024.
