The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Friday announced India's squad for the first two Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel named the squad for the white-ball series against New Zealand as well. Following an impressive domestic season, Prithvi Shaw was added in the New Zealand series, while Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan received their maiden Test call ups.
Although Suryakumar Yadav has stamped his authority in the T20Is, and there is hardly any doubt over his capabilities across formats, few cricket fans have raised questions over his selection in Test cricket. Fans on social media expressed their shock over the ignorance of Sarafarz Khan from the longest format despite being in an incredible form in the domestic season. In the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy, Sarafarz scored 982 runs at an average of 122.75 with four centuries and two half-centuries, with 275 being his highest score.
Meanwhile, the prolific top-order batter has amassed 431 runs at an average of 107.75 and a strike rate of 70.54 with two centuries, one half-centuries this season. While the Indian selectors picked Suryakumar Yadav for the first two Test matches against Australia, cricket fans showed their dissent considering Sarafaraz’s terrific form in his domestic season.
