Valencia asserted that the chants were misrepresented, claiming that fans shouted "Tonto, tonto!" ("Fool, fool!") rather than "Mono, mono!" ("Monkey, monkey!") as the documentary subtitles indicate.
While acknowledging that three individuals were convicted for racist behaviour during the match, Valencia emphasized that these actions do not reflect the sentiments of the broader fan base. The club has demanded an immediate correction and is exploring legal avenues to protect its reputation. The controversy has sparked broader discussions about racism in Spanish football and the responsibilities of media representations.
