Star Indian batter Virat Kohli achieved another milestone in his ODI career while playing a match-winning knock against Australia in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. The right-hander scored 84 runs off 98 balls as India reached the final of the Champions Trophy. With this knock, Kohli not just helped India to win the match but also became the second player after Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar to score more than 8000 runs while chasing in the ODI format.
Virat Kohli has now scored 8063 runs while chasing 159 times in his ODI career. In these matches, Kohli batted with an average of 64.50 along with 28 hundreds and 41 half-centuries. Sachin Tendulkar topped the list for scoring most runs while batting in a run chase in the ODI format with 8720 runs in 232 innings with 17 hundreds and 52 fifties at an average of 42.33.
Rohit Sharma has over 6000 runs while chasing in ODI
After Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, current Indian skipper Rohti Sharma is third player in the list to score most runs while batting second in ODI cricket. The opening batterhas amassed 6115 runs in 151 innings while chasing in the 50-over cricket at an average of 49.71 along with17 centuries and 37 half-centuries. Apart from that, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and Jacques Kallis come fourth and fifth in the list with 5742 runs and 5575 runs respectively while chasing in the ODI format.
Talking about the match, India defeated Australia by four wickets in Dubai to enter their third consecutive final in the Champions Trophy. Batting first, Australia were bowled out for 264 runs in 49.3 overs with Steve Smith playing a captain’s knock of 73 runs off 96 balls. In reply, Kohli played a match-winning knock of 84(98) runs as India chased the target in 48.1 overs losing six wickets.
