The Bangladesh tour of India's 2nd Test is set to start on September 27, 2024, with news regarding one of India's top batters, Virat Kohli struggling to score runs making headlines. During India's net session at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, the star batter struggled against Jasprit Bumrah as he dismissed him multiple times. Known for his mastery in international cricket, Virat’s return to Test cricket has been far from smooth, and with a long Test season ahead, this news adds to the growing worry about his form.
During the practice session, Kohli faced premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Initially, he played some elegant shots but soon fell under pressure and got out multiple times. The fast bowler's one delivery hits Kohli’s pad, leading him to confidently shout, "You are plumb!" which Kohli agreed to. After this, Jasprit dismissed Kohli two more times and teased him with a smile, saying, “The short leg would have caught that one." Additionally, he was also exposed to the spin. Now Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel coughed him as he struggled against the outside off-stump deliveries of the spinners. The 35-year-old missed several shots and eventually got bowled out by Axar.
Virat Kohli Faces Tough Challenge from Rising Star Jamshaid Alam
In another net session at Green Park in Kanpur, a young pacer from Lucknow troubled Virat Kohli with outside-the-off-stump balls, leaving him impressed. After the practice session, the pacer revealed that he was bowling at 135 kmph, but Kohli seemed uncomfortable facing the deliveries and asked what kind of cricket he plays.
As reported by Mid-Day, Jamshaid Alam said, “Virat sir came to me and praised me. He asked what kind of cricket I play. Although I was bowling at 135 kmph, Virat sir seemed uncomfortable facing the deliveries going outside. Coach Gautam Gambhir also asked me if I would play in the Ranji Trophy. Their inquiries have boosted my confidence.”
Kohli Under Scrutiny Ahead of Second Test
As India gears up for the second test set to kick off on the 27th of September, Kohli’s forms remain under scrutiny. The star batter scored six runs in the first inning and got out on 17 in the second inning. India hopes he can improve as they have a long Test season ahead after the second Test against Bangladesh. India will play New Zealand, and in November they will tour Australia, which will be one of the most important series for Kohli and Team India.
