
Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh started his 2025 with a big milestone as he surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal to become leading wicket taker for India in the T20I format. During the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22, the left-arm pacer took two scalps taking his wicket tally to 97 in the shortest format for India. After the match, Arshdeep was also seen apologising to Chahal for surpassing him to become India’s leading wicket taker in T20Is.
India defeated England by seven wickets to take a lead of 1-0 in the five-match T20I series. During an interview after the match, Arshdeep playfully held his ears and was quoted as saying “Sorry Yuzi bhai” for surpassing the leg spinner to become India’s leading wicket taker in the T20I format. Arshdeep has now 97 wickets to his name from 61 T20I matches for India, while Chahal has taken 96 scalps from 80 matches so far.

During the interview, Arshdeep Singh also assured the fans that there is no fitness issue for Mohammed Shami and he is looking to good touch. Notably,, making his return in the Indian squad after 14 months, Shami couldn’t find a place in the playing XI for the first T20I against England as India went with Arshdeep as lone pacer. After that, the fans also started speculating if Shami isn’t fully fit to play a match. However, Arshdeep confirmed that the right-arm pacer is fully fit.
“Just yesterday, I was talking about the same thing with Shami Bhai because when he was bowling, the way the ball was coming out of his hand was absolutely amazing. With every delivery, you would say, 'Wow, how can such an incredible ball come out of someone's hand like this!' Just wait for a few more days, and you'll get to see that bowling, and you’ll enjoy it a lot. The way the ball is coming out of his hand makes it look like the 22-year-old Shami Bhai is bowling again," Arshdeep Singh was quoted as saying by Sports Tak
