World number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus had to battle incredibly hard across two sets, but she ended up defeating American Coco Gauff, to win the Madrid Open title for the third-time in her career with a 6-3, 7-6(7-3) scoreline in the final at the Manolo Santana Stadium. During the summit clash, Sabalenka didn’t convert the championship point in the second set, allowing Gauff to force a tie-break, where she recovered in style.
In the first set, Aryna Sabalenka won the first set with relative ease, winning 17 points in a row at one stage, dominating Coco Gauff completely in front of thousands of tennis fans in attendance. Although the American recovered well in the second set, to take a 5-3 lead before Sabalenka made it 5-5 before her opponent saved six break points to end up forcing a tie-breaker.
In the tie-breaker, Aryna Sabalenka went 3-0 up before Coco Gauff made it 3-3, but then the Belarusian ran away with it by taking four straight points, to win the set, match, and the Madrid Open. This was the third title victory for Sabalenka in the year 2025 after winning in Brisbane and Miami Open earlier while playing in six finals thus far.

After securing the Madrid Open title, Aryna Sabalenka was quite appreciative of her opponent Coco Gauff’s performance in the final. She was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “Congratulations to Coco. I am so happy to see you back playing your best tennis. You are such a fighter and I love playing against you. With my team, we have been through a lot together so thank you to them.”
Meanwhile, Gauff also had some nice words to say about Sabalenka, which read, “I think it's four straight finals for you... Congratulations to you for all the success you are having. This has been a step in the right direction for me. It is one of my favourite cities and tournaments to come to, and hopefully we can go on and win more from here.”
