Babar Azam came up with a request to the reporters and his fans after Pakistan’s win over South Africa in Karachi on Wednesday, February 12. After the match, when Babar was addressing the media, the reporters were addressing him as ‘King.’ However, the Pakistani batting requested the reporters to not give him this title. Pakistan qualified for the final of the ODI Tri Series after defeating South Africa by six wickets with skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha scoring match-winning tons.
Babar Azam was given the title of ‘King’ by his fans a couple of years ago when the batter was in the best form of his career. “Pehli baat toh ye King-Shing karna, bolna zara kam karein (Firstly, stop calling me a king)," Babar said. “I’m not a king yet. Let’s see what people call me when I retire. Opening is a new role for me, and I’ve taken on this responsibility as per the team’s needs," Babar said while addressing the media.

I haven’t been able to finish: Babar Azam talks about his recent form
Speaking with the media, Babar Azam also mentioned about his poor form in recent times ans also hailed skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha for guiding Pakistan to historic run chase of 353 runs against South Africa. Notably, Babar hasn’t been looking in great touch from the last few months which has been a concern among his fans ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025.
“What I’ve done before is in the past. If I keep dwelling on previous performances, I won’t perform in the future. Every day is a new challenge with a new plan. Successfully chasing big totals like today boosts our confidence. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to finish the innings, but Rizwan and Salman played brilliantly today. Performances like these lift the team’s confidence," Babar said
