On the evening of Thursday, May 15, a serious accident occurred outside the RCDE Stadium in Cornella de Llobregat, Barcelona, just before the La Liga match between Espanyol and Barcelona. A car driven by a woman aged between 45 and 55 ploughed into a crowd of football fans, injuring approximately 20 people. It is reported that three individuals were hospitalised, and 11 others sustained minor injuries. According to reports, the incident began when the car, possibly after accidentally hitting a young girl, was surrounded by Espanyol fans who began throwing objects at it.

The driver panicked and accelerated into the crowd. The vehicle eventually came to a halt near a metal fence, and police intervened, arresting the woman and dispersing the crowd. Catalan authorities emphasized that the situation was under control and did not consider it a terrorist act. Video footage showed chaotic scenes, with people being struck or pushed aside by the car, and riot police managing the aftermath. The match was momentarily halted due to the incident but resumed shortly afterward.

FC Barcelona win their 28th La Liga title with 2-0 victory over Espanyol

Apart from this tragic incident outside the stadium, the night was one to remember for FC Barcelona as they were crowned La Liga champions after a 2-0 victory over local rivals Espanyol. Talking about the match, Espanyol seemed to be motivated to spoil the party for the Blaugrana as they created multiple chances in the opening minutes owing to defensive lapses from Barcelona. Although they came agonizingly close to scoring, wasteful efforts from the forwards and some brilliant saves by Szczesny kept the scoreline down to 0-0.

An electrifying second half saw Barcelona take the lead with an absolutely stunning goal by teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. Barcelona pretty much kept most of the possession in the second half and they too failed to convert numerous chances in front goal. A late goal from substitute Fermin Lopez sealed the deal for Barca as they won their 28th La Liga title with two games to spare.
