Liverpool is facing Chelsea in matchday 35 of the Premier League at the Stamford Bridge on May 4. Although the match marks one of the very few remaining games of the current PL season, it has zero implications for Liverpool, who have already secured the league title after a dominant display. In their debut season under Dutch manager Arne Slot, Liverpool won their 20th league title with a cracking 5-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield during the previous matchday.

Coming to West London for this matchup with Chelsea, Liverpool received a guard of honour from the Chelsea squad before the game started. The guard of honour in football is a tradition where the opposing team stands in two opposite parallel lines facing each other, and applaud the recently crowned champion team as they walk through to the field. These visuals reminded Chelsea fans of a nostalgic moment when 10 years ago, the Chelsea team received a similar guard of honour from the then Liverpool team at the Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea lead 2-0 against Liverpool during first 60 minutes

While the match does not hold much importance for Liverpool, Chelsea will be fighting hard to gain a favourable result to stay in contention for the Champions League spot for next season amidst a heated battle between the PL clubs. Manchester City, who recently won their game against Bournemouth, have moved to third place, leaving Chelsea at number 5. They are trailed only slightly by Nottingham Forest, who has three less points but a game in hand.

Therefore, it becomes crucial that Chelsea does secure a win in order to cement their position in at least the top 5 of the PL table. As of writing this, Chelsea have secured a 2-0 advantage over Liverpool, courtesy of an early goal from Enzo Fernandez and an own-goal from Jarell Quansah. It will be interesting to see whether Liverpool can comeback and get some consolation from this game.
