Former Australia opener David Warner is all geared up to make his Pakistan Super League (PSL) debut with the Karachi Kings’ game against Multan Sultans at the National Bank Stadium on April 12. Warner will be captaining Karachi and his responsibility will be to hand his team the trophy after five years. The Aussie was picked up in the PSL draft 2025 after getting snubbed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction held in Jeddah. Warner is the only overseas captain in PSL 2025. Ahead of his side’s inaugural game, the southpaw appeared in a press conference and was asked a difficult question by a reporter.

The reporter asserted Indians are trolling Warner for participating in PSL after not getting a contract in IPL 2025. Countering the claim, Warner said it’s the first time he has heard something like this. "This is the first I've heard of it. From my perspective, I want to play cricket. There's an opportunity to come to PSL. My international calendar didn't allow me to come to PSL due to the timings. Now, I want to compete, captain the Karachi Kings, and hopefully we are able to win the trophy," remarked Warner during the presser.

David Warner will hold Karachi's reins in PSL 2025

David Warner replaced Shan Masood as Karachi captain for the tournament. In 2024, Masood looked ineffective as batter and captain for Karachi. Masood’s poor form impacted Kings as they concluded their campaign without qualifying for the playoffs.

Karachi will expect Warner’s appointment as leader will change their fortunes. Records say that the left-handed batter has the potential to make this season effective. The Aussie veteran is the leading run-getter for his nation in T20s, notching up 12913 runs in 399 matches. In 2016, he captained Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and also handed the title to his IPL team.
