The IPL 2023 began with a bang in Ahmedabad with a glittering opening ceremony followed by some big hits in the first hour of the tournament opener between GT & CSK. After three quick wickets, the Gujarat Titans suffered a blow as their star overseas player Kane Williamson sustained a gruesome injury.

On the third delivery of the 13^th over, Williamson who was placed at the boundary, injured his knee while saving a six.  The Kiwi player caught the ball and flicked it in the air as he was close to the boundary. But during this, he landed awkwardly and hurt his right knee.

The former New Zealand captain was attended by a physio and was take n  out of the playing field. He was replaced by Sai Sudarshan who later became the second Impact Player after Tushar Deshpande. Sudarshan came into bat in place of Williamson, becoming GT’s first Impact Player.
