The banter between KL Rahul and Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen continued prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between their team and Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on April 19. Before the clash between both sides, Pietersen met with GT captain Shubman Gill during a practice session on Friday. “Hello, how are you brother? What's happening?” Pietersen asked Gill. A few moments later Pietersen asked “What's a mentor? Nobody knows,” remarked the former England batter. Listening to Pietersen’s question, Rahul broke into the scene and said something which left everyone in splits.

“A mentor is someone who goes to the Maldives for two weeks mid-season,” said Rahul. DC took to X and uploaded the clip of banter between both cricketing icons. Their caption read, “Thanks, KL, now we know what a mentor does.” Pietersen joined the DC camp almost after 10 days as he took a short hiatus to travel to Maldives. Talking about KL Rahul, he has been in red-hot form this season, hoarding 238 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 154.54. With these figures, he is also DC’s highest run-getter in the tournament.

GT to host DC in Ahmedabad in IPL 2025 clash

GT and DC have looked disciplined in this tournament so far. Both have deposed each other to lead the points table on a few instances but it will be the first time in this tournament that they both will confront each other. GT lost their previous game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 12.

Delhi, on the other hand, won their last contest against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 16. DC are currently on the top of the tally with their five wins off six outings while GT are in the third position with four wins and two losses after their six matches.
