Liverpool suffered another injury blow after their defender Kostas Tsimikas collided with manager Jurgen Klopp on the sidelines during their EPL clash against Arsenal. The club hit back in the game as Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s strike cancelled out Gabriel Magalhaes’ early header, not letting the score-line exceed 1-1. However, the Klopp side suffered a major blow after Tsimikas fell awkwardly as he collided with the Liverpool boss.
The incident took place in the 35th minute when the Greek left-back collided with the Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka and went on to collide with Klopp, who was in front of him near the touchline. While Klopp got on his feet quickly, Tsimikas was in visible pain and was taken out of the field. He was later replaced by Joe Gomez in the game.
After the game, it was reported that the 27-year-old had broken his collarbone, which Klopp later confirmed in an interview. The 56-year-old told Sky Sports, “A massive shadow, Kostas Tsimikas, his collarbone is definitely broken. All the rest [with his injury], we have to see. Out for a long time, which is hard to swallow for us with the Robbo situation.” He further said, “I thought it wasn’t a real problem. I had no pain and thought maybe Kostas came away. “I would happily give my collarbone if Kostas would be fit again.”
The German went on to say, “I was completely fine, in that moment I thought Kostas as well, and he said ‘no, it’s broke’. It’s not cool. I wasn’t even sure if I fell on him or how it happened. These things should not happen.” The game which ended in a 1-1 draw, has left Arsenal on top with 40 points and Liverpool and Aston Villa on 39, followed by Tottenham Hotspur on 36, Manchester City at 34 currently.
