Fondly known as “Captain Cool” by his fans, the former captain of the Indian cricket team MS Dhoni has gone viral again for his off-field endeavours. The launch of Dhoni’s latest sports venture, 7Padel took place on August 7, 2025. The event held in Chennai was attended by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and musician Anirudh Ravichander. 7Padel is located in Chennai aimed at popularizing the fast-growing racquet sport of padel in India. Apart from the inauguration of the place, the highlight of the day was a moment of Dhoni and Anirudh.

A padel match between MS Dhoni and Anirudh Ravichander has quickly gone viral on social media. Dhoni, with his characteristic calm and confidence, is seen guiding Anirudh, a self-professed CSK and Dhoni fan, through the nuances of padel. The musician, known for his work on films like Coolie and Jawan, flashed his trademark smile while rallying with the cricket icon. The video was shared widely across social media platforms, it showcased Dhoni’s athletic versatility and Anirudh’s enthusiasm, with the duo’s camaraderie stealing the show.

Chennai has always been special to me: MS Dhoni at the inauguration event

Padel, a racquet sport blending elements of tennis and squash, is played on an enclosed court smaller than a tennis court, typically in doubles, offering a fast-paced and social experience. Dhoni, a known advocate for sports and fitness, expressed his excitement about introducing padel to Chennai, a city he holds dear. “Chennai has always been special to me. The city has given me so much on and off the field, and it feels only right to launch my first padel centre here,” Dhoni reportedly said at the inauguration. “Padel is exciting and addictive, but more importantly, it’s inclusive. I want 7Padel to be a place where athletes, families, and fitness lovers all find their space,” he added.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who also attended the launch, reportedly expressed his enthusiasm for the sport, noting its unique blend of physical activity and fun. Anirudh, too, shared his excitement, reportedly stating, “It’s amazing to try something new with Dhoni. Padel is so much fun!” MS Dhoni has led India to the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup victories, has been reportedly very passionate about sports and fitness having reportedly tried his hand at football, golf, and tennis in the past.
