In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 25, eyes were set on the latter’s captain MS Dhoni, who was playing his last game of the season. In the contest, Dhoni supporters didn’t get the chance to witness the legend batting in the game but Chennai ended their campaign on a positive note as they defeated the table-toppers GT by a massive margin of 83 runs. During the second innings, Dhoni looked proactive as a captain with the field placement.
However, he also looked disappointed with his fielders who weren’t deployed in the position where Dhoni was expecting them to be. In a viral video on social media, Dhoni can be seen throwing his arms in frustration when Matheesha Pathitrana and Shivam Dube failed to catch the legend’s attention.

MS Dhoni’s tactics later worked for Chennai as Pathirana assisted Ravindra Jadeja in the 11th over of the innings to get Shahrukh Khan’s scalp while fielding in the position, where the veteran wicket-keeper placed him. Later, Shivam Dube also grabbed a catch on Noor Ahmad’s delivery to show Rahul Tewatia the way to the pavilion.
Talking about Dhoni’s batting performance in the season, the veteran has scored 196 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 135.17. As a skipper, he could guide his team to only three victories in nine matches. Chennai concluded their season with only four wins in 14 matches. It is the first instance in the cash-rich league, when Super Kings have ended their campaign at the bottom of the tally. However, Dhoni’s fans will expect him to serve Chennai in the next season and lift the coveted trophy for the sixth time.
