SunRisers Hyderabad’s rising star Nitish Kumar Reddy who made a name for himself in the 2024 season of the IPL added another feather into his hat. The Visakhapatnam-born youngster who turned heads in the current season of the cash-rich league became the most expensive player to get picked in the Andhra Premier League. Reddy was picked for a huge sum of ₹15.6 lakhs for the third season of the tournament. The batter was roped in by the Godavari Titans during the auction held in Vizag on May 16.

The tournament will have a total of six teams fighting for the ultimate title. The teams participating are Bezawada Tigers, Godavari Titans, Coastal Riders, Rayalaseema Kings, Vizag Warriors, and Uttarandhra Lions. Reddy has been in excellent form in the ongoing season of the cash-rich league and has played a significant role in guiding the side to several wins.

In videos doing rounds on social media, Reddy could be seen catching up on the live auction in his hotel room. As soon as got the highest bid, the cricketer was left extremely happy and excited about the forthcoming stint.

I love to be a match winner: Nitish Reddy on his stint in the IPL 2024

The 20-year-old opened up on his recent heroics in the IPL 2024 and said that he likes to be a match-winner. Reddy told ESPNcricinfo, "Even I thought no one is going to pick me and suddenly SRH retained me. I was like, 'I have to work a little more'.” Reddy got the opportunity to showcase his talent in the IPL 2024 when Mayank Agarwal was unwell against CSK, where he scored 14 runs in eight balls and guided the side to a win with a straight six off Deepak Chahar.

Reddy added, "We know it's not going to work every time. It's not like we will go hard on opponents all the time, but one bad game, one bad ball, such things happen and we have to be prepared for early wickets. You can see at first we scored huge runs and after that we collapsed. So I've been thinking at the back of my mind for this situation that if the team is going to collapse, I have to be ready for that situation."
