Petra Kvitova, the Czechia tennis player, who is a former two-time Wimbledon champion, has announced her return to tennis following the birth of her son in a video posted on her official Instagram account. The 34-year-old, who gave birth to her son in July 2024, has been away from the sport for the last 15 months after playing the China Open in October 2023, but now, her break from tennis is set to end later this month in the US.
Notably, Petra Kvitova, who won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014 at SW19, reached the highest ranking of her career in women’s singles nearly 14 years ago when she was the No. 2 in the world. Apart from the two Grand Slam victories, she also reached the final of the Australian Open at the Melbourne Park in 2019, while her best performance in the French Open was reaching the semis in 2012 and 2020, and the same in the US Open was making the quarters in 2015 and 2017.

“After 15 months being away from tennis and having my baby boy Petr, I'm coming back to the tennis circuit. I really miss tennis and I miss competing, so I am really looking forward to being back. I can’t wait,” said Petra Kvitova in a video posted by her on Instagram. She also sounded quite upbeat about her return to tennis after more than a year, aiming to start afresh and take it from there.

Petra Kvitova is planning to compete for the first time in tennis in 15 months at the ATX Open in Austin, the USA, a WTA Tour tournament which is set to begin on February 24. Moreover, during her illustrious career, the Czechia tennis player has won 31 singles titles on tour, with the most recent ones coming in Miami and Berlin in the year 2023.
