Former India openers Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar were recently honoured by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as both legends got board rooms on their names at India's apex-cricketing body’s headquarters in Mumbai. Tendulkar served Team India in international cricket from 1989 to 2013 and during his extensive playing career, he accumulated 34357 runs in 664 matches across all formats. Gavaskar, on the other hand, played for India from 1971 to 1987 and during those 16 years, he struck 13214 runs in 316 innings of 233 games. Recognising the efforts of both Mumbai-born former batters, BCCI named board rooms on both iconic players.

Following the inauguration of the SRT 100 board room, Tendulkar delivered a speech in which he recalled his memories of first visiting the office, along with his priceless memories. “Bang opposite the Cricket Club of India, a small room was there, and I still remember visiting that place, which was the BCCI office back in 1989, when I went on my first tour of Pakistan. From there to this place, it’s a remarkable transformation,” remarked Tendulkar in his speech.

Looking at the trophies achieved by Team India in the room, he also said, “What makes the place even more special is these priceless trophies. It’s a reflection of what the office bearers of the BCCI and the players have been able to plan and execute in helping the country to achieve this. So these are priceless moments."

Sunil Gavaskar inaugurates the board room on his name

After Tendulkar, BCCI invited Sunil Gavaskar to inaugurate the board room dedicated to him on May 15. At the notable event, Gavaskar thanked the board for bestowing the honour on him. Posting the clip of the 75-year-old cutting ribbon at the event, BCCI wrote, "Honouring a legend! India great Sunil Gavaskar inaugurates 10000 Gavaskar-a boardroom named in his honour and his iconic milestone-at the BCCI HQ in Mumbai."

He said, "MCA is my mother and BCCI is my father. Thank you so much. I really appreciate the opportunity that I have got to be what I am, thanks to Indian cricket. This is a huge honour. I am very thankful to BCCI for this honour. And I would like to give it all for BCCI... so anytime anything required of me, even at this age, please feel free."
