But as they neared the 400-run lead, India lost in-form batter Shubman Gill in a brilliant run out attempt from skipper Ben Stokes & Tom Hartley. Missing his fourth Test ton by nine runs, Gill was left frustrated by his bizarre dismissal and slammed his bat to let out his anger. The Indian batter went for a run at the non-striker’s end but turned back after seeing night-watchman Kuldeep Yadav back-tracking. However, Gill put in a dive but couldn’t cover the distance and just fell short to get run-out by Tom Hartley in the 64th over.

Ego-less knock from Gill: Nick Knight

Speaking to the JioCinema ahead of Day 4’s play in Rajkot, former England cricketer Nick Knight hailed Shubman Gill’s knock. Gill, who scored 65 runs on Day 3, while Yashasvi Jaiswal retired hurt himself at 104, played a crucial inning to help double the lead.

Knight, who has been part of the commentary panel for the ongoing third Test, said, “Shubman Gill played an ego-less innings. What I mean by that is that he didn’t try and match Jaiswal. Go back a few years and Gill I the young gun that everyone is talking about. Now there’s another young guy who has come in and he just said ‘it’s your day, I’ll just knock it around and give you the strike to let the score build’,” said Knight.

At lunch on Day 4 of the third Test, India had posted a lead of 440 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal (149) and Sarfaraz Khan (22) in the middle.
