In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the hosts kicked off their batting innings in a miserable style. Batting first, Chennai lost their three wickets within the power play. In the initial four overs, their openers Shaik Rasheed (11 off 12) and Ayush Mhatre (seven off six) fell against Punjab’s pacers Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen respectively. After their departure, Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja got the responsibility to stabilise the innings. However, Jadeja again put up a disappointing batting show.

Batting at number four, he could chip in with only 17 off 12. The 36-year-old veteran failed to counter PBKS' left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar in the sixth over of the match. Noting Chennai batters’ another terrible start, netizen failed to be calm and taunted the Yellow Army. An, X user named Arul Akash A wrote, “Watching CSK batting is just depression this season #CSKvsPBKS.”

Check out the fan reactions on CSK's tough start in power play agianst PBKS in IPL 2025:

Chennai will have to win against PBKS to keep their playoffs hopes alive

For CSK, this contest is do-or-die as their horrendous performance in the tournament has led them on the brink of their elimination from the competition. Punjab, on the other hand, will look to solidify their chances to qualify for the next round. Shreyas Iyer and his men have started well in the ongoing game and they will look to create more pressure on the hosts now.

As of writing, Chennai are 80/3 in nine overs, with Sam Curran (unbeaten 28 off 15) and Dewald Brevis (unbeaten 12 off nine) at the crease. Brevis looked in brilliant touch with his bat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He has the potential to revive CSK from their poor start in the game.
